Big homerun in year 2022

I had a big homerun shot last year.

In fact, one of my best years.

I managed to close my positions all with positive returns

Year 2022, I am satisfied.

I wish I have the same good year for 2023!

Let's rock the year 2023 too!

1.214M42 Regrossed Balances

If you follow the CPF Annual Report definition of regrossed balance, we have a combined S$1.214 million in CPF. That sounds better.

The regrossed balance includes the monies you have spent on investment/housing loan/education, etc.

That is the right way of calculating as it shows your own ability to draw cash into the CPF account (be it topping it up yourself or from the employer contribution).

Nevertheless, the net cash balance in CPF account is S$918,000

Why such a nice figure?

I round out the numbers by doing Voluntary Housing Refund (VHR)!

It shall break S$1 million mark on January 1st, 2024.

The key is to stay employed.

My 10 years boy has the CPF balance of S$54,741.05 (sitting in SA and MA account that both draw high compound interest of 5.0% currently).

If you want to boost your CPF balances at a faster pace, you can choose to pay your housing loan all in cash instead of CPF OA.

We have withdrawn total CPF OA amount of S$261,802.98.

We have missed out the potential interest of S$67,024.15, which is the accrued interest.

CPF is not the only retirement income but surely, it is one of the damn good incomes when we retire! Cheers.

OCBC bank, 8-months Fix Deposit, 4.08% per annum! (Revision 02)

Revision 02 (last paragraph): updated on February 6, 2023.

This deal seems even better than the previous DBS bank fix deposit promotion.

JK Holdings: DBS bank, 5-months Fix Deposit , 3.80% per annum ! (jkfund.blogspot.com)

Hence, I had placed S$20,000 fix deposit with OCBC to enjoy this 4.08% p.a. interest for 8 months.

For now, total of S$80,000 locked in fix deposit

If you are OCBC Premier or Private Client, you get to enjoy additional 0.10%. That's 4.18% p.a.

I believe the fix deposit rate will continue to go up until the mid of the year 2023.

Will we see 5.00% fix deposit interest rate soon?

Revision 02: updated on February 6, 2023
=====================================

There is a trend of fix deposit rate coming down, in line of Treasury bill (T-bill) dropping below 4.00% too.

As you can see, for OCBC time deposit, the 8 months tenure is the best at 4.08%, then 12 months at 3.40% only as well as 1.30% for 36 months.

I prefer the option to receive principal and interest back to my saving account.

I decided to put S$20,000 more into OCBC fix deposit with 8 months tenure of 4.08% interest (p.a.).

S$100,000 into time deposit with different tenure of 5 months and 8 months. Total interest to be received is S$2,038. Okay la, not bad.

Updated on December 15, 2022:

Yes, I have settled my booking for another 12-day Japan trip this year in December. Firstly, we redeemed 3x SIA tickets to Osaka by using 162,000 KrisFlyer miles and paid S$311.10 taxes for 2 adults and 1 child.

We booked total 6 nights of hotel stay at Osaka. The average daily rate is S$153.43.

Hotel Monterey Le Frere Osaka | Official Website

We also booked 5 nights of hotel stay at Kyoto. The average daily rate is S$207.88.

Nono Kyoto (hotespa.net)

Both hotels have onsen facilities again!

With the airfare and hotel bookings, we have paid S$2,271.10 so far.

The rest will be updated 12 months later! :)

Year 2023 holidays are settled.

As of January 4, 2023, I checked the price of our ticket. It will cost S$3,917.90
That says we had saved S$3,606.80. Wow!

I will fly Scoot to Osaka if I have to purchase the airfare at full price.

Our SIA ticket is an Economy Standard ticket that comes with 30KG check-in luggage each passenger.

I have no idea why it costs so much even though the travel time is 12 months from now.
